Description

"Discover the rich, earthy flavour of Schani Kala Chana 500g, a traditional variety of chickpea widely enjoyed in Indian cuisine. Also known as black chickpeas, brown chickpeas, or desi chana, these small, dark-coloured legumes have a distinctive nutty taste and a pleasantly firm texture. Compared with larger, beige-coloured kabuli chickpeas, kala chana has a more robust character and retains a satisfying bite after cooking.
A staple in Indian households, Schani Kala Chana is perfect for preparing aromatic curries, hearty dals, flavourful chaats, and traditional South Indian dishes such as sundal.
These versatile chickpeas also work beautifully in soups, vegetable stews, and warm salads, absorbing the flavours of spices, herbs, and savoury sauces.
With their naturally occurring plant-based protein, Schani Kala Chana makes a satisfying addition to vegetarian and vegan meals. The convenient 500g pack is ideal for everyday cooking and exploring authentic Indian recipes."

Tailor to Taste

"Schani Kala Chana is ideal for preparing traditional Indian dishes and hearty homemade meals.
For a delicious kala chana curry, rinse the dried chickpeas thoroughly and soak them in plenty of cold water for 8–12 hours or overnight. Drain and rinse again, then cook in fresh water until fully tender. Kala chana has a firmer texture than regular kabuli chickpeas, so it may require a longer cooking time.
In a separate pan, heat a little oil and sauté chopped onions, garlic, and ginger. Add tomatoes, turmeric, cumin, coriander powder, and garam masala. Stir in the cooked chickpeas with a little cooking liquid and simmer until the flavours combine.
Serve with steamed basmati rice, chapati, or puri.
For a traditional South Indian kala chana sundal, toss thoroughly cooked chickpeas with mustard seeds, curry leaves, grated coconut, and green chillies.
You can also use cooked kala chana in tangy chaats with onions, tomatoes, coriander, lemon juice, and chaat masala, or add them to soups and vegetable stews.
Cooking tip: Soak overnight and cook thoroughly until tender. A pressure cooker can help reduce cooking time. Dried chickpeas should never be eaten raw or undercooked."
