Description

"Discover the rich, earthy flavour of Schani Moth Beans 500g, a traditional Indian pulse known for its small size, distinctive nutty taste, and satisfying texture.
Also known as matki or mat beans, these compact, brownish legumes are widely used in Indian cuisine, particularly in regional dishes from Maharashtra and Rajasthan.
Moth beans have a pleasantly earthy aroma and a subtle nutty flavour that pairs beautifully with aromatic spices such as cumin, coriander, turmeric, and chilli. When properly cooked, they develop a tender interior while retaining a satisfying bite, making them ideal for hearty curries, dals, soups, and stews.
They are especially popular in traditional Maharashtrian preparations such as matki usal and misal, where their robust flavour complements spicy gravies and savoury toppings.
With naturally occurring plant-based protein and dietary fibre, Schani Moth Beans are a versatile ingredient for vegetarian and vegan cooking.
The convenient 500g pack is perfect for everyday meals and exploring authentic Indian recipes."

Tailor to Taste

"Schani Moth Beans can be used to prepare a variety of traditional Indian dishes, from richly spiced curries to comforting soups.
For a delicious Maharashtrian-style matki usal, rinse the dried moth beans thoroughly and soak them in plenty of cold water for 6–8 hours or overnight.
Drain and rinse again, then simmer in fresh water until fully tender. Cooking time varies depending on soaking and the age of the beans.
In a separate pan, heat a little oil and add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Once fragrant, stir in finely chopped onions, garlic, ginger, and tomatoes. Add turmeric, coriander powder, chilli powder, and garam masala.
Combine the cooked moth beans with the spice mixture and simmer until the flavours blend into a rich, aromatic curry.
Serve with chapati, steamed rice, or pav bread.
For traditional misal, prepare a spiced moth bean curry and finish with crunchy farsan, chopped onions, fresh coriander, and a squeeze of lemon juice.
Moth beans also work beautifully in vegetable stews, warm salads, and hearty soups.
Cooking tip: Soaking dried moth beans before cooking can help reduce cooking time. If using sprouted moth beans, cook them thoroughly before serving rather than eating the sprouts raw."
